Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. The Academy Award-winning The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge. Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometres upstream and also popular as a location for adventure based training programs.

Kitulgala is famous for its breathtaking scenery and thrilling outdoor activities. The town is situated on the banks of the Kelani River, which offers opportunities for white water rafting, kayaking, and even canyoning. If you're not up for a water adventure, you can explore the beautiful rainforests in the area, which are home to a variety of bird species and other wildlife.

One of the most popular attractions in Kitulgala is the Kelani Valley Forest Reserve. Here, you can take a guided hike through the lush jungle and experience the beauty of the area up close. The reserve is also home to several waterfalls, including the famous Diyaluma Falls, which is the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.
